Royal Oak Gets Back on Track After Nearly 9 Inches of Snow

Schools are back in session and all residential streets are expected to be plowed by the end of Tuesday night.

One day after about 9 inches of snow blanketed the city of Royal Oak, daily routines returned to normal, including sending students back to school after an extended mid-winter break.

With streets from 14 Mile to 12 Mile roads plowed as of this morning, the Royal Oak expects to complete residential street clearing by Tuesday night. Once all residential streets are cleared workers will begin removing the snow medians from the downtown area, hauling the snow to the Downtown Development Authority-owned property at 10 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, east of the . As part of the city’s plan, parking lots are cleared last.

At F in downtown Royal Oak, business remained pretty calm throughout the storm.  “It’s one of those snows that’s later in the season,” co-owner George Frentz Jr. said, so people are more inclined to let it melt and wait for spring.

 Frentz said the store had some customers come in for salt and other deicing materials, but for the most part, people were pretty set with their winter gear for the season. Frentz said there was a lot more activity earlier this month when a blizzard was forecast, with customers coming in days beforehand to stock up on supplies.
