Royal Oak Mayor Launches Re-Election Campaign

Mayor Jim Ellison kicked off his campaign for a sixth term Thursday night.

Mayor Jim Ellison kicked off his re-election campaign on Thursday at the Royal Oak home of Michael Chetcuti and Kyle Evans.

Ellison first entered public office in 1991 as a city commissioner and was first elected mayor in 2003.

"Since I have been the mayor, the city has seen a lot of struggles. We were always worried about where the money was going to come from and we were laying police officers off. It got really desparate. But we got the milliage passed and the unions came up and gave us concessions. Now the city is in much better shape, so we can look at things like a parks initiative or the arts commission," Ellison said. "I want want to be up here now when we can have some fun."
