Royal Oak Nursing Student Receives Exceptional Achievement Award Scholarship

Elise Fournier is honored for outstanding academic and professional performance.

Oakland University School of Nursing student, Elise Fournier, received the Exceptional Achievement Award Scholarship from Oakland University. This award was available to current students who demonstrated outstanding academic and professional performance.

A 2009 graduate from Royal Oak High School, Fournier found a love of nursing through her work as a co-op nursing assistant as well as with the mentorship of her mother, Becky Fournier, who is also a registered nurse. Fournier worked as a nurse technician at Beaumont Hospital while attending Oakland and recently accepted a position in the surgical unit. She is actively involved in the Student Nurses Association at Oakland University (SNAOU), the Dean’s Circle and Sigma Theta Tau as well as serves as President of Young Life, a Christian organization that mentors middle and high school students.

“It is such an honor to receive this award and I am humbled to have been nominated for this honor. I chose nursing because while I have always been successful in my studies, I wanted something more,” said Fournier. “As nurses, we see patients in their worst moments, when they are scared, hurting and vulnerable; to be able to make a difference in their day, maybe even their lives, is such a beautiful thing.”
