Royal Oak Opens Cooling Centers to Help With Heat

Friday's forecast calls for a high near 102 degrees with heat index values as high as 108 degrees, according the to National Weather Service.

Due to the extreme heat expected for Friday, the City of Royal Oak has  designated the Mahany/Meininger Senior Center and the Salter Community Center as cooling centers. 

The National Weather Service forecast for Friday is mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 102 degrees and heat index values as high as 108 degrees.

Anyone who needs a place to get out of the heat can come to the centers from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and relax in an air conditioned environment. 

The Royal Oak Police encourage residents to call 911 for an emergency, heat related or otherwise. 

Royal Oak cooling centers are located at:

  • : 3500 Marais Ave.
  • : 1545 E Lincoln Ave.
