Royal Oak Residents Chosen as Wayne State University Commencement Speakers

Royal Oak residents Christine Center and Boma Pollyn will address the Class of 2013

Royal Oak residents Christine Center and Boma Pollyn have been chosen as student speakers for Wayne State University’s 2013 graduation commencements on May 9, at Ford Field.

Both are graduating with bachelor degrees–Center with a bachelor of science in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise and sport science and Pollyn with a bachelor of science in biological sciences and food and nutrition sciences–and were very active within the Wayne State Community as well Detroit.

At 16, Center began attending Oakland Community College and received an associate degree in science. She then trained at Beaumont Hospital’s School of Allied Health and is a registered radiologic technologist. While attending WSU, she continued the midnight shift at Beaumont and participated in club soccer and lacrosse.

Pollyn was born and raised in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria, and moved to the U.S. in 2008 to attend Wayne State University. He chose WSU because of its diverse study body and outstanding medical school – Pollyn plans to attend medical school to become a trauma surgeon. He was also a member of various on-campus student organizations, including Student Senate, and volunteers at the John D. Dingell V.A. Medical Center.
