UPDATE: Programs at Addams Elementary Cancelled Thursday

Four district buildings lose power in citywide power outage.

Update, 10:35 p.m.: Superintendent Shawn Lewis-Lakin released this statement Wednesday evening:

Based on DTE not being optimistic about having power Thursday morning, we are alerting families to closure for Thursday to give them time to make alternative plans.

6:27 p.m.: , , and the building were all without power today after a fire in a substation on Webster Road . As a result, the district had to cancel many of its programs today.

The lack of power to the administration building disrupted phone and e-mail service across the district, according to Superintendent Shawn Lewis-Lakin.

DTE spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba said the repair process today is going very well. "By the end of the evening, we fully expect to have 6,500 customers that were impacted Tuesday back up online," he said.

As of 3:30 p.m. today, power to all buildings except Addams Elementary School has been restored.

"Addams houses summer day care and day camp programs," said Lewis-Lakin.  "The status of these programs for Thursday will be depend on whether power is restored to Addams Elementary; if Addams is closed on Thursday the programs housed in the building will be cancelled for the day."
