WRIF Rock Girls Come to Royal Oak for Photo Shoot

Contestants kicked off the annual competition with Royal Oak photographer Robert Bruce.

Thirty-two beautiful girls rolled into Royal Oak Wednesday morning ready to rock.

The women are all vying to be the next 101 WRIF Rock Girl, a job that comes with a $40,000 salary and loads of bragging rights, including representing the rock station at VIP events and going to tons of concerts. The winner does the station’s on-air “Rock Report” and makes a weekly video, too.

All the contestants did a photo shoot with photographer Robert Bruce at his 11 Mile Studio to kick off the competition.

“I saw a big Rock Girl poster while I was driving,” said contestant Carly S. of Madison Heights. After looking up the contest rules, she decided to give it a shot. With a bit of acting under her belt, Carly is not shy about interacting with people and speaking in public, she said.

“There were hundreds of applications,” said Julie Law, of Greater Media Detroit. “We had tryouts and did interviews to narrow it down to 32 girls.”

Over the next two weeks, WRIF listeners will have an opportunity to vote for their favorites. The field will be narrowed down to the "Sexy 16" and then the "Exotic Eight."

“The Final Four get to go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with Robert Bruce for a 4-day photo and video shoot,” Law said.

On May 16, the Rock Girl Finale will be held at the Hard Rock Café in Detroit where the winner will be crowned.
