Sold-Out Gala Raises Funds for Arts Curriculum

More than 500 guests attended the Chalk & Chocolate Opening Night Celebration at Fifth Avenue on Friday.

Supporters of the arts and chocolate lovers came together at Friday for a sneak preview of Chalk & Chocolate, and to raise money for the Royal Oak Neighborhood Schools Arts Curriculum Fund.

Guests were treated to food from  Royal Oak restaurants, including , , and , and entertained by the funky sounds of The Brothers Groove. and Piece of Cake Liqueur provided chocolate delights.

Proceeds from all sponsorships, participation fees and opening night ticket sales benefit the Royal Oak Neighborhood Schools Arts Curriculum Fund, which helps schools provide art supplies and get exposure to the arts.

"For our first year, we are really pleased with the turnout," said Peggy Goodwin, one of the event's organizers. "We are are happy to raise money for art programs in the school district. So often the arts are the first thing to be cut."
