Your Guide to Holiday Events in Royal Oak

From the parade to the tree lighting ceremony, Patch is helping you plan your holiday season.

The holiday season in Royal Oak has begun.

Here's a guide to some of the popular community events celebrating the Christmas season. Help us make this list all-inclusive by adding details of your own events in the comments section attached to this story.

Santa Scamper 

What: The half-mile run along Washington Avenue in downtown Royal Oak is open to all walkers, joggers, and runners. The noncompetitive event takes place just ahead of Royal Oak's Holiday Magic Parade. Registration includes a race number, Santa hat, McDonald’s coupon and hot chocolate after the run to enjoy while watching the parade.

When: 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18

Holiday Magic Parade 

What: Get into the holiday spirit along Washington Avenue in downtown Royal Oak with over 80 parade units, including marching bands, floats, musical performances, circus acts and Santa. After the parade, visit Santa at the Emagine Theatre from 3-5 p.m. or enjoy a stroll through downtown. 

When: 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18


What: Pick up your Prize Passport and map to huge savings and family-friendly activities at over 40 participating restaurants and retailers in downtown Royal Oak. 

When: 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18

Holiday Marketplace 

What: Get an early start on holiday shopping. Over 60 local crafters, artisans and Royal Oak merchants will be at the Royal Oak Farmers Market.

When: 4-8 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 29 

Tree Lighting Ceremony

What: Join carolers, the Salvation Army Band and the Royal Oak Children’s Choir at the Royal Oak Farmers Market while waiting for a visit from Santa. The jolly elf will flick the switch to light the holiday tree.

When: 6:15-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29

Don't forget this Saturday, November 17, 10am-4pm, The Royal Oak High School Holiday Arts & Crafts Show. There will be over 100 artists & crafters there, This is the only fundraiser that the ROHS PTSA has. Admission is $2 for adults, ROHS students are free with school id, kids 12 & under are free

Good suggestions! If budget is an issue for a website, you could use webs.com (a free website building tool (from Pagemodo) with easy to use templates) Or you could create a Facebook business page for the event and link to that instead. Just a thought...

There will also be the Hope For Holidays charity event at Fifth Avenue benefitting Gleaners Food Bank and The Judson Center. Wednesday December 5th at 7pm. $10.00 at the door or $10.00 in donations (toys, soap, shampoo, clothing, coats etc.) Live Dj, TONS of prizes to win, free food and plenty of pool tables.
