Kris Kurzawa at The Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music

Kris Kurzawa is one of the most sought after guitarists in metro Detroit. His talents as a side man and leader have included stints with world-jazz project Zap Toro, The Mighty Funhouse, and Detroit smooth jazz stalwart, Alexander Zonjic. As a leader, the Kris Kurzawa trio seeks to expand the jazz guitar trio into new and exciting directions. From straight ahead bebop to funky grooves verging on a "jazz punk" esthetic, the trio will engage the curious jazz listener and take them on an exciting musical journey.

Coming from a pedigree of great jazz artists, his studies include Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Jazz Studies from Wayne State University in cultural heart of Detroit. He has played with notable artists such as: Larry Carlton, Bob James, David Sanborn, Liz Larin, Thornetta Davis, Jill Jack, Alexander Zonjic, Sean Blackman, Wayne Gerard, John Arnold, Barbara Payton and many others. He writes and performs weekly with Zap Toro, Skeeto’s Funhouse, Trio Organic and The Kris Kurzawa Trio. He’s been nominated for 11 Detroit Music awards and was awarded Outstanding World/Reggae/Ska Songwriter award in 2011 (For Zap Toro).

This show will feature several of Kurzawa's original compositions, along with interperations of compositions by jazz guitar legends such as Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, John Scofield and Grant Green. Joining Kurzawa will be young lion Jesse Kramer on drums, along with the virtuosic and always witty Damon Warmack on bass.
