Oh, by gosh by golly, it’s almost time for mistletoe and holly!
Holly Laginess, creator of the artful designs, By Golly By Holly, will officially open a new art market, Poesy, on Thursday, Nov. 1 just in time for the holiday shopping season.
Poesy, at 1600 Rochester Road, will feature handcrafted creative works from local and national artists including functional art, fine art and photography. Not only will it be a great place to find a gift, but it will also function as the owner’s working studio during off-hours.
Laginess has always wanted to open her own store and although she is doing so in a challenging economic climate, she is creating a no-risk opportunity for her featured artists. With the new retail location, talented craftspeople will have the opportunity to bring their works to Poesy on a consignment basis where Laginess feels their reward will definitely outweigh their risk.
Poesy – meaning poetic inspiration – is interpreted by Laginess as an artful spirit: a feeling.
“An art purchase really reflects a buyer’s personality,” said Laginess. “With this new gallery I am really looking forward to spending more time with my customers. I also have a personal relationship with all my featured artists, so a purchase will most likely come with a fun story of my own experience with the artist and theircraft.”
Customers and friends are invited to Poesy’s grand opening event on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. “Poesy will be a store that brightens your day!” says Laginess.
Holly Laginess is a veteran artist, with her works sold in over 450 galleries in nearly every state including Hawaii and Alaska. She has sold her ceramics to many well-known companies including Meijer Botanical Gardens (Grand Rapids, MI), the Biltmore Estate (Asheville, NC), Kohler Co. (Kohler, WI) and The Grand Hotel (Mackinac Island, MI). Many local celebrities have also been adorned in her handcrafted jewelry.
Poesy is located at 1600 Rochester Rd. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday Noon-7 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
