Disappointing and embarrassing CITCOM meeting

City Commissioners were split on several issues during their meeting Tuesday night.

City Commission met Monday night. Four split votes. One holdover. Angry exchanges. One actual shouting match. Stonewalling.

Disappointing, even embarrassing. These guys are better than that. The split votes:

  • Rasor and Capello voted No regarding the purchase of two vehicles for the Police Department.
  • Ellison, Rasor, and Capello voted No on the First Reading of a very controversial proposed ordinance which would hold the drivers and owners of party buses responsible for the bad behavior of their passengers.
  • Rasor voted No regarding writing Lansing about a cluster of Medical Marijuana bills.
  • Rasor, Capello, Andrzejak, and Poulton killed writing Lansing about House Bill 4853.

Held over (again?) were a cluster of items dealing with Emagine's request for changing the way it provides 102 parking spaces.

Passed unanimously were:

  • Covering parking meters during the coming Christmas parade.
  • A couple of Traffic Committee recommendations.
  • Designating Hermann's Bakery an historic building.
  • First Reading of amending the city's Massage Ordinance to reflect that the State will now license individual massage therapists.

Read into the record was a preliminary financial report from Arts, Beats & Eats. The report shows that the DDA recovered $88,000 of the $100,000 it had forwarded ABE. The City's income from the event was zero.
