Retired elementary school teacher and 3rd generation business owner honored

Historical Society annual dinner honors resdients.

Mary Chisholm, retired Royal Oak teacher, earned the Sophie V. Bowman Award, named after the first woman president of the Royal Oak Historical Society, elected in 1957. Chisholm was honored for bringing her love of Royal Oak's history to the classroom during her teaching career.

Mike Frentz, third generation co-owner of Frentz and Sons Hardware, a city landmark, won the Dr. Joseph S. Morrison Award, named after the first president of the society. Frentz was honored for his ongoing volunteer work at the Historical Society Museum, where he serves as the museum's information technology guru and joins other volunteers in providing the physical work required to mount and take down exhibits and providing maintenance work in the fire station which houses the museum.

Elected to office at the73rd annual dinner were Deb Anderson, president; Jay Dunstan, vice president; Kelly Muller, Secretary; and Kevin Sutherland, treasurer.
