Sick of the Human Rights Ordnance debate?

READERS SAY

Question
I and some of my friends feel you've been too kind when you comment about Jim Rasor's protégés on the city commission. Will you get tougher on them after Jim is gone?

Response
I will expect more substantive participation from them. Rasor or not, they seem to have needed a much longer learning curve than usual.

Question
Are you getting as irritated as some of us about the name-calling showing up during debate about the Human Rights Ordinance?

Response
Irritated? I'm sick of it, especially because a segment of residents who are obsessively pro or con the HRO have lost all sense of perspective. So, pass or fail, we should experience some respite. I mean, even a 5-2 progressive CITCOM majority wouldn't risk a recall petition if the HRO fails by a narrow margin and they try again too soon.
