All Royal Oak Schools Go Green
Four schools—Addams, Keller, Oak Ridge and Oakland Elementaries—achieve the highest "Evergreen" status.
All Royal Oak schools are officially proclaimed Michigan Green Schools. Royal Oak is the only school district in Oakland County whose buildings all applied and met the requirements to achieve Official Michigan Green School Status for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Four of the schools (Addams, Keller, Oak Ridge and Oakland Elementaries) achieved the highest “Evergreen” status. Northwood and Upton Elementary Schools received the “Emerald” designation. Royal Oak High School and Royal Oak Middle School were named “Green” Schools.
The State of Michigan Green Schools Program challenges schools to initiate energy savings activities and introduce programs to further environmental education. If a school participates in 20+ activities, it may be designated a Michigan Evergreen School. Those participating in 14-19 activities may be designated a Michigan Emerald School. A school achieving 10-14 of the 20 listed activities can apply to be designated a Michigan Green School.

In the letter of congratulations, the Michigan Green Schools said, “Thanks to the dedicated effort of your school communities, students and their families are learning firsthand the importance of protecting our resources and saving energy. Getting kids involved in learning to be environmentally responsible is an integral part of developing a green and sustainable future.”
Awards will be given out at the Award Ceremony Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Oakland Schools. For further information, visit www.michigangreenschools.us.
