With Marriage Comes Talks of Medical Wishes, Wills and More

A message from the Gilda's Club Metro Detroit executive director.

Many of you have been part of our community for some time so you know that this time of year is special to me. Wednesday I celebrated 14 years as a cancer survivor. A myriad of emotions comes with that statement! I am grateful for my continued health and the people who continue to stand beside me. That same day, my fiance' and I met with our pastor to discuss our upcoming marriage ceremony. I thought it was a perfect day to discuss a very happy occasion.

With marriage comes talks of joint bank accounts, medical wishes, wills, etc. Yikes! Challenging but necessary. During one of our conversations, planned giving came up and I thought of Gilda's Club and our newly revamped program. Many people have the misconception that only wealthy individuals can include planned giving in their estates. There are so many options and benefits available for planned giving that people of all income levels can make a difference. Leaving a gift to a nonprofit such as Gilda's Club ensures you leave a legacy to people touched by cancer. How awesome to know you can make a difference in such a special way!

There are many other ways to make a difference for people affected by cancer. Use your Kroger Rewards card, make a tribute donation, purchase items off our wish list, join our walk, host an event...the list goes on so if you're interested in supporting Gilda's Club, please don't hesitate to contact me, or another staff person. We are grateful for all support, as I know our members are too.
