Red Run Fireworks Cancelled, No Rain Date

Red Run Red Run Golf Club has decided to cancel its fireworks event. The club may consider a date later in the summer for the annual display.

The private golf and social club, which treats its members and anyone else nearby to a holiday light show, cancelled its fireworks display yesterday after storms whipped through the area at 5:30 p.m.

Red Run Golf Club applied for a fireworks display permit with the Royal Oak City Clerk in March and requested a June 28 rain date. The Royal Oak City Commission approved the application at its meeting on April 1.

The golf club said this morning it will not have the display tonight.

"Requesting a fireworks display permit is a lengthy process," said Nate Samuelson of the Royal Oak City Manager's Office.

It's unlikely the club could pull together a new application before July 4. City Commission doesn't meet again until July 8, Samuelson confirmed.

Samuelson said the club understands tonight is the approved rain date.

"They said they may look at other dates," he said. "Maybe later in the summer, like August."
