Job Satisfaction Plays Critical Role in Employee Tenure

The era of 20-plus year careers seems like a distant memory. The modern workforce has evolved into a multi-generation crowd of job-hoppers, with a focus on “temporary” opportunities as a tool for career advancement. Despite this trend, some companies have still managed to retain long-term employees. The secret, they say, is kinship.

Employee retention is directly influenced by job satisfaction. Job satisfaction is influenced by workplace culture. Here at ISCG, we can attest to this – over 40% of our employees have worked here for more than 10 years. Interviews with employees revealed key words and phrases, like “large talent pool”, “creativity”, “small, but mighty”, “teamwork” and “respect”. People working for this small business feel rewarded professionally for their efforts and share a belief in working together toward the common good.

 ISCG President, Bob Martin, compares the company culture to one a family would have.  Martin said that job-hopping is a result of “jobs that don’t grow with people.” Like families, companies need to employ flexibility and creativity when their employees move through different stages.

Companies that prioritize an exchange of ideas, fun, and a collective purpose are most likely to secure a spot on the prestigious listings of best-places to work.

 The general consensus: People stay with their jobs because they are happy, challenged, and engaged.
