Walsh College Takes Home the ACG Detroit Cup for the Third Time in Six Years

Walsh College announced that its team took first place in the sixth annual Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Detroit Cup.

TROY, MI – Walsh College announced today that its team took first place in the sixth annual Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Detroit Cup hosted at Michigan State University’s Management Education Center in Troy on February 9.  The ACG Cup is a case study competition designed to give students from leading MBA programs across the country real-world experience and invaluable insights into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advising and private equity.

The Walsh team defeated three other MBA teams from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University, the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and the Wayne State University School of Business Administration.

Walsh’s teams have placed in the top two since the ACG Detroit competition began in 2008, marking itself as the most successful team in the competition’s brief history.  Walsh College was also victorious in 2008 and 2011.

“We are very proud of our students and their continued success in the ACG Cup,” said Stephanie Bergeron, president and CEO of Walsh College.  “Winning for the third time shows that we are one of the premier business institutions in the state of Michigan, producing students with a strong business acumen that can be applied in real-world situations.”

As part of the competition, each of the four teams, composed of three to five MBA students, were given a real business case to analyze.  On Saturday, they presented their final findings and recommendations to a panel of judges.  The winning team from Walsh was comprised of three graduate students – Michael Manetta (Troy, MI), Ryan Drews (Royal Oak, MI), and Mark Lashbrook (Marysville, MI).

Walsh College, along with the second place team, the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, will go on to compete at the ACG Cup Intrastate Competition against the top two teams from the ACG Western Michigan Cup on Saturday, March 23.  The winner of this competition will receive an additional $5,000 cash prize.
