One of the premier event sponsored by the Royal Oak Optimist Club is the annual Youth Appreciation Awards. This year's event was held at the Salter Center and was attended by the students receiving awards from Royal Oak, Berkley and Shrine High Schools as well as parents, friends school administrators and Optimist Club members. The students were selected by their teachers and advisors for their outstanding achievements both in and outside the classroom. Each student received a certificate and a gift from the Optimist club and was introduced by a club member. This years awardees were:

Berkley HS - Kristin Dona, Corinne Moses, Marla Krasnick, Eliisa Strand
Royal Oak HS - Austin Carter, Madeline Bolton, Jessica Ross, Maxwell Sanders
