Former Royal Oak Market Master Dies at Age 84

Steve Sendek was an "institution" at the Royal Oak Farmers Market for years.

Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Steve Edward Sendek, 84, who died May 16 in Royal Oak.

Sendek was a veteran of World War II  and a former a grocery store manager, according to the Gramer Funeral Home, but he was perhaps best known by Royal Oakers as the Market Master of the Royal Oak Farmers Market, where he had a booth for years selling baseball cards and newspapers.

"Steve was a very sweet man and an institution here at the market.  He will be very missed by all, and we hope he is finally at peace with his dear wife Marge," said Shelly Mazur, of the Royal Oak Farmers Market. (Sendek's wife, Margaret, passed away on April 12, 2011.)
