Downtown Royal Oak seems to be full of drunken douchbags and the city seems to ignore the neighborhoods. Is this what we want? Is vomit on the streets downtown attractive to people? Who is pocketing all of the tax revenue that is generated?

I think we need to ask our DDA what the heck they do with all the money they get from the business owners. Putting up lights and flowers sure the heck doesn't take that much money. How about the DDA covering the cost of every police call that goes into the downtown bar or nightclub?

A little bit of internet homework or a single phone call would have revealed to either of you that the DDA pays the mortgage on the courthouse and the 6th/Lafayette parking deck (quite a lot), the salaries of 2 police officers, part of the streetscaping (expensive), plus other things. There are many state strictures on what a DDA can spend money on. The expenditures listed were forced on the DDA by City Commissions over the last 12 years to ensure that the DDA was assisting the Downtown area in serious expenditures. You can decide if you like the way our DDA spends once you arm yourself with the available facts. It is a better approach than silly accusations. And who knows? You might think of a great (and legal) idea for the DDA that you could lobby for.

The DDA has trashed Royal Oak. Now we are stuck with a bunch of bars and a lot of drunks. All the normal businesses are leaving. Great work DDA!
