GLSEN Southeast Michigan, Proposal A endorsement (Royal Oak)

Dear Editor,

            I am writing on behalf of GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) Southeast Michigan to say that we fully endorse the One Royal Oak’s “Yes” on Proposal A.  Here at GLSEN we work with countless LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) youth and they all tend to worry that their lives are going to be harder due to discriminatory laws. We support these students the best we can and help them work through their struggles. However, there is only so much we can do. We cannot tell them that they will never be fired from a job because they are gay. We cannot tell them they will never be denied housing if their landlord finds out they are LGBT. That is the world we now live in. A world where children with potential are forced to worry about keeping part of themselves a secret in the workplace and at home. Here at GLSEN we are here for our students, our future , and we cannot allow them to be suppressed any longer. Join us with a “yes” vote November 5th on Proposal A Royal Oak. Make your city a safe place for ALL our youth to excel.
