Check out the weather, fuel prices and more for Oct. 4, 2011.

It's Tuesday and here are five tidbits of news and information that we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

Please also check out our video greeting (at right) from members of the Hartland Home & Garden Club as they wish everyone "good morning" in part of a message to our community.

1. The weather

Looks like we're headed for a beautiful fall day with light winds, sunny skies and a high of 71 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, it'll be mostly clear with a low around 45.

2. Fuel prices

Here's a quick daily survey of the regular per-gallon price, according to gasbuddy.com —

  • : $3.31
  • : $3.42 (cash is 10 cents lower)
  • Shell: $3.49
  • Lowest price in the Fenton area: $3.27 at nine stations, including four on Owen Road at U.S. 23.
  • Lowest price in the Brighton area: $3.33 at Costco at 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd in Green Oak Township.

3. Hartland Township Board to meet

The Hartland Township Board of Trustees holds a 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday at Township Hall, 2655 Clark Rd. The agenda includes approving a new position to assist the township manager with administrative duties, and discussions of water fluoridation and liquor licenses.

4. Hartland Patch contributor's work featured in national sorority magazine

A version of a column Hartland Patch contributor Tatum Ryan wrote in March and why that's OK has appeared in the latest issue of The Quill, the national alumnae magazine for Ryan's sorority, Alpha Xi Delta.

The original column received more than 280 Facebook recommends and more than 30 comments. The latest version is on Page 8 of the summer issue.

5. Hartland trivia

No one was able to get Monday's question: What civic group celebrated its 16th anniversary last week on Sept. 27?  Answer: The Hartland Optimist Club. Belated congrats to the club on its birthday.

Tuesday's question: In historic Hartland, Charles Mercer was said the first to do what? Hint: he fixed and provided a product that everyone needed then and today.

This is fun Christopher! Ya got us thinking! I was going to say horses next but I don't think we all use them anymore. I hope someone gets it soon!
