Is THIS what we're paying good money for?

I was notified from the City Engineer that this kind of shoddy work is quite typical from the lowest bidder that the City insisted on paying to redo our sidewalks. When I replied that they are paying good money to have workers essentially ruin and/or mar the good portions of the sidewalk, he then told me that "no, the city did not pay good money. They paid the lowest price they possibly could." Well then, it WAS MY FAMILY that paid good money, only to have to look at this mess for how long? Oh right, nobody knows because it could take weeks or months for the evidence of this awful workmanship to hopefully fade and/or slowly chip away. Think I'm upset?! I AM FURIOUS! How embarrassing for us as we get hundreds of walkers past our home every day. This runs the ENTIRE length of my front yard, from end to end! And if the workmanship is as bad as they say for all residents, doesn't it help the city to pay for the lowest bidder, thereby insuring that the work has to be done over again in just a few years? If their own Engineers are this disappointed, imagine how their citizens feel?!
