LA Fitness is a private business with $1.2 Billion in yearly revenue. Don't you think they could afford their own security?

But that is exactly how many businesses, including many bars, make such a large profit. They keep the profits private, but push the public safety costs incurred by their patrons onto the public.

you would think they would provide some sort of security but since they don't maybe it is time people look elsewhere for gym memberships. I am sure if enough business is lost the place will have to do something. it could take a while though. If this place doesn't care about their members safety, well being, or property and won't take steps to make sure people feel comfortable there it won't last long. what good is some state of the art facility if people are worrying about their stuff in a locked locker or their vehicles getting broken into while they are trying to work out?

Just imagine the cost to the taxpayers of the investigation and filing of 70 separate police reports. What is the city doing to prevent this ongoing crime problem?

That's a good one... The police actually investigating petty theft crimes. If they don't catch the person who stole something or have a good lead they don't seem to do much about it. They put the report in a little file that sits in a filing cabinet until it reaches a time when they have to purge records and send them to storage to make room for new cases. People really think the police break out the finger print kit for some broken $5 lock on a locker and an hour later have the results back from the criminal database and can go catch a thief who took their items. Sadly things don't work like they do on television. It would be nice if they did sometimes, but they don't and the police seem to have a ranking system for what crimes have priority and petty crimes are probably about as low as jay walking. Sure filing the report takes some time and we get stuck paying for that, but aside from that nothing seems to come from any of it. Since the city refuses to do anything about the problems maybe residents need to make a bigger stink not just online either.
