The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul mandate to obtain health insurance.

Chief Justice John Roberts was the swing decision in the 5-4 vote on the Affordable Care Act passed in 2010.

The president’s healthcare policy, recognized as his signature legislative achievement, would provide an additional 30 million Americans with healthcare insurance.

, Royal Oak's largest employer and a large regional heath care provider, welcomed Thursday's ruling while cautioning there still some unknowns.

"It's a complicated ruling," said Mike Killian, vice president of marketing and public affairs at Beaumont. The Beaumont Health System is concerned about "how it's all funded, how the machinery gets put together."

The plusses? "This will focus our system – and everybody else – on primary care," Killian said. "It will require us to keep whole populations healthy rather than just focusing on individuals."

"Regardless of the ruling, the direction we have to go is improving quality while lowering costs," he added, as Baby Boomers age and place more demands on the system.

What do you think?

Absolutely the right thing to do- it's despicable that we don't have health care coverage for all Americans, regardless of their economic status, and the reforms being undertaken currently are the first step in the right direction

Great news! After all, who would be against:
1. Preventing insurance companies from covering you due to a pre-existing condition? 2. Letting kids stay on their parents coverage till they're 26? 3. Ensuring that people who are ABLE to pay for insurance--but don't for whatever reason (which costs you and I) - pay into the system. And those are just a few of the benefits!

Sorry about the typo in #1 above (should have read: "... preventing insurance companies from NOT covering you ..."

Dear Ray Smith,
I appreciate that you like the Royal Oak Safe Neighborhoods logo that I created for the purposes and use by the Royal Oak Crime prevention council. I am wondering why you are using it next to your name?

Peggy, ask Royal Oak Patch, because I never asked for it to appear next to my name.
