UPDATE: Alleged Knife-Wielding Man Arraigned in Royal Oak

Ryan James Yarnevich, 18, was arraigned in the 44th District Court on Tuesday after allegedly threatening his father and neighbors with a knife.

A knife-wielding man was arraigned in 44th District Court Tuesday and charged with two counts of felonious assault and one count of domestic violence.

Royal Oak Police officers arrested Ryan James Yarnevich, 18, of Royal Oak on Midland Boulevard, near Campbell Sunday, after he allegedly brandished the weapon at a family member and neighbors, police said.

Yarnevich allegedly threatened his father with a kitchen knife during a dispute at a home in the 1100 block of Woodlawn.

The father and a female friend were able to retreat to a basement bedroom and barricade the door. Unable to force his way into the bedroom, the suspect fled the home on foot, according to police.

While fleeing the area, Yarnevich also threatened woman and man in the 1200 block of Midland with the knife. The woman was able to drive away and the man was able to go inside a home, lock the door, and call 911.

Responding officers quickly located Yarnevich on Midland, just west of Campbell, walking on the sidewalk. When confronted by officers, he dropped the knife and was arrested without incident, according to police.

“The responding officers worked as a team, used good tactics and judgment, and were able to safely take this young man into custody without anyone being hurt," said Chief Corrigan O’Donohue in a press release.

Yarnevich's bond was set at $10,000. His next hearing  date is scheduled for Feb. 14 at 9 a.m.
