Armed Robber Targets Elderly Couple in Royal Oak

Police say similar attacks occurred in Birmingham and West Bloomfield.

Royal Oak Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Wednesday in the 2700 block of Bamlet St.

Police say two elderly residents were emptying groceries in their driveway at around 5:41 p.m. when they were approcahed by a man asking to use their phone, stating he was having car trouble.

The man then indicated he had a gun and demanded cash. After taking an undisclosed amount of money the man fled the area on foot, according to police. The couple was not injured.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black man, 5-feet 10-inches to 6-feet 1-inch tall, 200-220 pounds, and approximately 30-40 years-old. He was wearing a light colored tan jacket, dark pants and dark shoes.

Strong Arm Robbery Leaves 65-Year-Old West Bloomfield Woman Injured

West Bloomfield Police are investigating a similiar strong arm robbery that left a 65-year-old resident with a broken finger.

Lieutenant Tim Diamond said the woman returned to her home in the 7000 block of Oak Tree at around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and parked her car in the garage. As she got out of the vehicle, with her purse strap around her arm, a man suddenly appeared and grabbed her purse, breaking her finger in the process. 

Diamond said the woman screamed, but by the time her husband got to her, the thief was gone. She was treated at Henry Ford Hospital. 

Another incident in Birmingham yesterday may also be connected, according to police.

Police warn motorists who are being followed should drive to their local police station, or to a populated area to call for help.
