Court Date Set for Royal Oak Woman Charged in Fatal Crash

Trial begins April 4 in Macomb County Circuit Court.

A 20-year-old Royal Oak woman is scheduled to appear in Macomb County Circuit Court on April 4, charged with killing a 53-year-old Richmond mother in January as a result of a drinking and driving accident in Sterling Heights.

Kelley Marie Nagle is charged with operating while intoxicated causing death and operating while intoxicated second offense. The first count is a 15-year felony and the second is a one-year misdemeanor. She entered a plea of not guilty Jan. 18 and is out on a $100,000 bond and ordered to wear an alcohol and GPS monitoring device. 

Nagle is scheduled to appear at 1:30 p.m. April 4 and as of Tuesday afternoon the judge had not yet been assigned

Nagle was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer southbound on Dequindre Road, south of 19 Mile Road, shortly after midnight Jan. 16 when she attempted to pass a red Mazda sedan in front of her, driving head-on into oncoming traffic, Sterling Heights Police Lt. Dale Dwojakowski said. Her vehicle struck a Ford Ranger, driven by 53-year-old Annette Eileen Evans of Richmond, police said.

Dwojakowski said the incident was a “severe, severe collision,” leaving the victim pinned in her vehicle. The woman was transported to William Beaumont Hospital, Troy, where she was pronounced dead.

No one else involved in the accident was injured.

Nagle’s blood alcohol level at the time of the accident was .23, nearly three times the Michigan legal limit of .08, said William Cataldo, chief of homicide for the Macomb County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
