Dumpster Diving Yields Human Skull, Doctor's ID

A Hazel Park woman was "hysterical" after finding the skull and other items, police said.

Police say they don’t know what to make of a Hazel Park woman’s unusual find as she rummaged through a large trash bin at a Warren apartment complex Wednesday: a human skull.

The skull, which was small, was partially concealed in a canvas bag, the Detroit Free press reports. A doctor’s lab coat with a patch associated with a local healthcare provider, a doctor’s identification and paperwork from the facility.

Citing an ongoing investigation, Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green declined to reveal the name of the physician or the health-care facility, the newspaper said.

It may be possible to extract DNA from the bone marrow to determine who the skull belonged to.

The Dumpster the woman was searching was seized and taken to the police station for further inventory.

The woman was “hysterical” when she found the skull and immediately called 911, Green said.
