Ex-Royal Oak High School Principal's Pre-Trial Hearing Postponed Again

The pre-trial scheduled for today in Oakland County Circuit Court for Michael Greening has been postponed until Nov. 13

A pre-trial hearing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon for former Royal Oak High School Principal Michael Greening on two felony embezzlement charges  has been postponed until Nov. 13 at the request of the defense counsel.

The postponement was requested to give defense attorney Paul Stablein time to review testimony from Greening's August preliminary hearing in 44th District Court.

Stablein told Judge Shalina Kumar in Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac he has been in discussions with Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Novy. He said the two were close to a "resolution to the matter."

The two days of preliminary hearing testimony includes Royal Oak Police Department Det. Keith Spencer summarizing his examination of Greening’s bank records and credit card statements, noting it appeared Greening had money troubles.

If convicted on two felony embezzlement charges, Greening faces up to five years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000 or three times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater, for each charge. The former principal was released on $50,000 personal recognizance with conditions, including that he not leave the state.
