Ferndale Man, 23, Charged with Stealing Cellphone at Royal Oak LA Fitness

A 23-year-old Ferndale man has been charged with trying to snatch a man’s cellphone.

The incident took place at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday at LA Fitness, 25352 Woodward, according to the Royal Oak Police Department. 

According to police, a man left his cellphone at the customer service desk while an employee gave him a tour of the gym. While he was away from the desk his cellphone was stolen.

Royal Oak officers located Steven Dwayne Johnson in a vehicle in the City of Ferndale. The Ferndale resident was charged with larceny in a building. 

Johnson was arraigned Thursday in front of Judge Terrance Brennan in 44th District Court. His bond was set at $2,500. The next hearing date is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Jan. 31.
