Royal Oak Man Passes Out In Running Car With Loaded Handgun, Troy Police Say

The incident occurred Sunday morning at John R and Maple roads.

A 28-year-old Royal Oak man was arrested early Sunday morning after he was found passed out in a running car in the middle of an intersection with a loaded handgun on the front passenger seat, according to Troy Police.

At 2:43 a.m., police were dispatched to John R and Maple roads on the report of a car stopped in the intersection despite a green light. On arriving, police observed the vehicle was running and in "drive," according to the report.

After positioning a vehicle to keep the stopped car from inadvertently entering the intersection, police were able to wake the driver.

Police describe the man in the car as having bloodshot eyes. The handgun found had been reported stolen, according to the report.

The man refused to answer any questions and was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, possession of stolen property and a concealed weapon violation, police said.

Results of a blood test are pending.
