Michigan State Trooper Offers Spooky Tale

In 1967 a Trooper working in a rural area was driving after dark when he noticed a young woman walking along the roadway carrying her shoes.  The Trooper stopped to ask the woman if she needed any assistance.  The woman responded that she would love a ride home. The Trooper proceeded to give her a ride home which was 3 miles down the road.  The woman did not say anything and only looked straight ahead.  The Trooper pulled up to the house she pointed at, a nice white farm house.  The woman exited the vehicle, said “Thank you”, and ran towards the front door as the Trooper pulled away. 

The next day as the Trooper was starting his afternoon shift he noted the woman he had given a ride to, left her shoes in his vehicle.  The Trooper returned to the house to deliver the shoes and knocked on the door.  An old woman answered the door.  The Trooper explained why he was there and the woman looked at with a sad look.  She pointed across the street to a cemetery.  She then told the Trooper that the woman who wore those shoes was her daughter buried in the cemetery 15 years earlier.

This story reminds me though especially now with Halloween approaching that pedestrians should always do the following:  Use sidewalk whenever possible, obey traffic signals, never cross mid-block, cross streets at a corner, using a traffic signal and crosswalks whenever possible, always stop at the edge of parked car, curb, or vehicle before walking out into traffic, look left-right-left before crossing a street and continue to look while crossing, make eye contact with drivers prior to crossing in front of them, never assume the vehicle driver can see you, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible when walking along the roadway, wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight when walking at night, never allow children under the age of 10 to cross the streets alone, Allow for enough time to safely cross the street.

Welcome Trooper Brennan Brophy 

This week I would like to introduce Trooper Brennan Brophy who was assigned to the Michigan State Police - Brighton Post when he recently graduated from the 125th Trooper Recruit School. 

Trooper Brophy graduated from Michigan State University with a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Intelligence and Analysis.  He was a parole/probation officer for Macomb County prior to becoming a Trooper. 

Trooper Brophy likes to travel and is a bit of an adventurer.  He has dove on the Australian, Great Barrier Reef, bungee jumped in New Zealand, sky dived from 15,000 feet and white water rafted. 

Trooper Brophy says he has always had the mentality to help others.  When he was researching becoming a police officer, Trooper Brophy heard such good things about the Michigan State Police and what Troopers stand for, he knew being a Trooper would be a great career fit.
