Update: More than 6,400 Without Power This Morning in Royal Oak

The storm that rolled through the area Saturday evening knocked out power to much of Royal Oak north of 12 Mile and east of Woodward, while the Arts, Beats & Eats festival's power was spared.

The storm that rolled through southeast Michigan Saturday evening, bringing torrential rains, lightning and high winds, knocked out power to more than 6,400 Royal Oak residents.

According to the DTE outage map at 11 a.m., 4091 residents in the 48067 and another 2,324 residents in the 48073 zip codes were still without power.

Estimated restoration time was Monday morning.

Although the power outages did not affect the Arts, Beats & Eats festival area, the wind and rain hammered tents along Washington, and vendors were repairing booths in anticipation of the 11 a.m. opening.

The storm rolled through Royal Oak between 8:30 and 9 p.m., affecting Royal Oak and most other southern Oakland County communities. DTE Energy's power outage website indicated at  9 a.m. Sunday that Ferndale had more than 6,000 customers without power, and Pleasant Ridge, Oak Park and Madison Heights had thousands left powerless.

Royal Oak Fire Chief Chuck Thomas said "huge trees took out power lines in south Royal Oak." There were no reports of injuries.

Thomas says the department did make several medical runs to Arts, Beats & Eats on Saturday for heat exhaustion and miscellaneous trips and falls.
