Numerous Houses, Cars Broken Into in Royal Oak

Vandals and thieves are targeting homes and vehicles around the city, police reports show.

In the past week, Royal Oak police have taken reports on a slew of home break-ins, including three within a block of each other, vehicle thefts and damages, detained an illegal immigrant and arrested a house stripper.

Home invasions:

  • 3200 block of Prairie, May 20:  Someone broke a window and entered the home.  The suspect stole a violin, computer games and an undisclosed amount of currency.
  • 3300 block of Prairie, May 20:  The complainant reported she arrived home and discovered her rear door open. There were no signs of forced entry or damage and nothing was missing.
  • 3300 block of Prairie, May 21:  The complainant reported that on May 18 someone cut the side screen to the window but no entry was gained. A Toro lawnmower was stolen from her backyard.
  • 4100 block of Rochester, May 25:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect broke out her patio door and stole her flat panel television and an undisclosed amount of currency.
  • 1300 block of Smith, May 25:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect entered her home and stole two computers, a video camera and a walkman.
  • 3800 block of Hillside, May 26:  The complainant reported she heard an unknown suspect outside her window attempting to break in.  The complainant turned on a light and scared the suspect away.
  • 4300 block of West 13 Mile Road, May 26:  Officers on patrol located a residence that had been broken into through the patio door.

Larceny from autos:

  • 3300 block of Cummings, May 21:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect threw something at her neighbor’s car and broke the window. The suspect was scared off and fled the area on foot.
  • 1100 block of Greenleaf, May 21:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole his wallet from his unlocked vehicle. 
  • 1300 block of Sherman, May 24:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect cut the catalytic converter off of his 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier.
  • 2600 block of North Connecticut, May 25:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his iPod and an undisclosed amount of currency.
  • 1100 block of N. Center, May 25:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole all four tires off her 2010 Chevy Malibu.
  • 2500 block of N. Connecticut, May 25:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his Garmin GPS unit and an undisclosed amount of currency. 

Vehicle thefts:

  • 2100 block of Parmenter, May 24:  An unknown suspect stole a red 2000 Ford E-150 panel van.
  • 3400 block of Benjamin, May 25:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole her dark green 2000 Dodge Caravan.

Other incidents:

  • West 11 Mile and Center, May 19:  Officers conducted a traffic stop and found the driver to be an illegal immigrant. The U.S. Border Patrol was contacted and arrested the suspect.
  • 3300 block of Harvard, May 24:  The complainant reported that a suspect was removing aluminum siding from a vacant home. Officers confronted the suspect and placed him under arrest for larceny and misdemeanor warrants.
  • William Beaumont Hospital, 3601 W. 13 Mile, May 24:  A patient released from the hospital was found wandering the campus parking lots.  He was approached by security staff and found to be in possession of a stolen hospital phone.  Royal Oak  officers arrived and placed him under arrest.
  • Royal Oak Public Library, 200 E. 11 Mile, May 19:  A Specialized orange mountain bike that was locked to the bike rack outside the library was reported stolen.
  • 700 block of South Connecticut, May 24:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect poured sugar into her gas tank.
  • LA Fitness, 25352 Woodward Ave., May 24:  A gym bag was reported stolen from an unlocked locker.
  • 300 block of Devillen, May 25:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole a Japanese maple from her front yard.
