Suspected Sex Offender Arrested at Royal Oak Motel, Beware of Water Department Imposters

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Highlights from Royal Oak Police Department reports from the past week:

Man robbed during visit from Water Department imposter

1900 block of Cresthill, Nov. 1:  A man reported a male, approximately 30 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 170 pounds, wearing a hardhat and yellow vest, came to his home.  The suspect told the man he was from the water department and needed to check the water pressure inside due to a broken water pipe in the area.  The man allowed the suspect into the home.  The suspect and the man went to the basement to check the pressure.  The suspect was periodically talking on a prep radio, claiming he was talking  to his boss.  The suspect left the home and the man later noticed that several pieces of jewelry and an undisclosed amount of currency missing from the bedroom.  It is believed the suspect in this case may have been communicating with a second suspect who entered the home while they were in the basement. 

The suspect in this case was not an employee with the City of Royal Oak.  In this case, the suspect never showed any credentials nor did the man ask to see them.

Suspected Sex Offender Arrested at Royal Oak Motel

Seville Motel, 28300 Woodward Avenue, Nov. 8:  Royal Oak officers conducted a motel registry check at the Seville Motel.  The officers discovered one of the tenants had three felony warrants for criminal sexual conduct.  The officers made contact with the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

Disorderly motel guest resists arrest

Royal Motor Inn, 825 E. 11 Mile, Nov. 5:  Royal Oak officers were dispatched to the motel to investigate a disorderly suspect.  When the officers made contact with the suspect, he fled out of the room.  Royal Oak officers gave chase and quickly set a perimeter in the area.  The suspect was located a short time later and taken into custody.  The suspect had several felony and misdemeanor warrants.  The suspect was charged with resisting and obstructing a police officer, felony warrant and misdemeanor warrant. 

Home invasion 

800 block of Forestdale, Nov. 1:  A woman reported someone in an older red pick up truck stole two Trek mountain bikes from her garage.  No further suspect description is available at this time. 

1300 block of Poplar, Nov. 3:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked detached garage and stole several power tools. 

2700 block of Crooks, Nov. 6:  A man reported someone had entered her home through an unlocked door and stole jewelry and an undisclosed amount of currency.  A canvass of the neighborhood revealed a neighbor observed two black males enter the home through the front door in the morning hours.  One of the suspects was wearing a cream colored jacket. 

Stolen video games, leaf blowers, DJ equipment

1100 block of W. Farnum, Nov. 1:  A man reported a roommate stole his gaming system and four video games.  The thefts occurred approximately five months ago. 

1400 block of Forestdale, Nov. 1:  A man reported someone stole two backpack leaf blowers from his storage area. 

Meijer, 5150 Coolidge, Nov. 3:  A woman reported leaving her purse in a shopping cart.  The woman returned to the store and the purse was gone. 

Binson’s Home Health Care, 30475 Woodward Avenue, Nov. 05:  A woman reported an unknown person had stolen her credit card and an undisclosed amount of currency from her purse. 

2300 block of W. 13 Mile, Nov. 7:  A man reported someone stole DJ equipment from his apartment storage locker. 

Items taken from cars

Lafayette Parking Structure, 300 S. Lafayette, Nov. 1:  A man reported someone smashed the rear window of his vehicle and stole an MP3 player and a portable GPS unit. 

300 block of Leafdale, Nov. 1:  A man reported someone stole a ladder and painting equipment from the back of his pick up truck. 

iPod, iPads and more taken from unlocked cars 

Lindell Ice Arena, 1403 Lexington, Nov. 4:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his iPhone and iPad. 

4200 block of Crooks, Nov. 3:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole clothing, MP3 player, backpack, and prescription drugs.      

700 block of S. Blair, Nov. 7:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a radar detector and an iPod. 

Malicious damage to property

700 block of S. Laurel, Nov. 4:  A man reported someone damaged several wooden slats on his privacy fence. 

1600 block of E. Lincoln, Nov. 6:  Royal Oak officers located graffiti spray painted on two businesses in the area.  The business owners were notified of the damage.
