Police Blotter: Police Arrest Thieves, Suspicious Solicitor

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Highlights from Royal Oak Police Department reports from the past week:

Thieves arrested

1700 block of Gardenia, Oct. 7:  Royal Oak officers responded to the Village Green Apartment complex, at the request of the Ann Arbor Police Department, to look for a vehicle stole in a Home Invasion.  The officers located the stolen vehicle and discovered it was occupied by a male suspect. Further investigation revealed two more accomplices were on foot in the area. Officers located both the suspects hiding in the adjacent apartment complex. All three suspects were arrested. Two were arrested for possession of stolen property and one was arrested for interfering with police officers.

Suspicious solicitor arrested

Main and Allenhurst, Oct. 6:  Royal Oak officers responded to investigate a suspicious male soliciting without a permit. Officers located the man and discovered he was in possession of drug paraphernalia and had a felony warrant for his arrest.  The man was placed under arrest and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, soliciting without a permit, obstructing a police officer and felony warrant.

Breaking and entering

Woodward Avenue Suhl, 25595 Woodward Avenue, Oct. 6:  According to police report, someone entered the building through a locked key coded door and stole three sets of car keys. The suspect then stole cell phones, wallets, credit cards and other items from a storage cupboard inside the building and the vehicles in the lot. 

Prime Wireless, 1800 W. 14 Mile, Oct. 5:  Royal Oak officers responded to a commercial burglary alarm and found the front door to the business smashed.  Surveillance video revealed a male, wearing a black hoody, threw a rock through the front door, entered the store and stole two cell phones and a tablet.

300 block of Orchard View, Oct. 4:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked detached garage and stole three tennis rackets. 

600 block of S. Altadena, Oct. 8:  A woman reported someone stole her silver mountain bike from her open detached garage. 

Stolen bikes, wallet

500 block of Lincoln, Oct. 6:  A man reported he observed a male take a pink Huffy bicycle from the backyard of a home in the 500 block of Lincoln.  The man confronted the suspect who dropped the bike and fled the area. 

William Beaumont Hospital, 3601 W. Thirteen Mile, Oct. 5:  A woman reported someone stole her wallet from a desk in one of the office areas. 

200 block of N. Connecticut, Oct. 4:  A man reported someone stole his grey 10-speed bicycle from the side of his house. 

2400 block of Torquay, Oct. 9:  A woman reported someone stole her unsecured purple Wasabi La Golla bicycle.  

Car stolen

1100 block of N. Campbell, Oct. 8:  A man reported someone cut the soft top on his 2006 Jeep Wrangler and attempted to steal the vehicle. 

Items taken from cars

Washington and Derby, Oct. 6:  A woman reported someone stole the catalytic converter from her 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. 

Royal Oak Ford Collision Shop, 30002 Woodward Avenue, Oct. 5:  A man reported someone stole his checkbook from the glove box.  

Houstonia and Wilson, Oct. 8:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole the stereo.

Malicious damage to property

Churchill School, 707 Girard, Oct. 8:  According to police report, someone spray painted graffiti on the west side of the school.

Royal Oak Mini Storage, 313 E. Hudson, Oct. 6:  According to police report, someone smashed an exterior window with a landscape rock.

Citizens Bank, 218 S. Main, Oct. 5:  According to police report, someone spray painted graffiti on the center garage door. 

Royal Coin Laundry, 4121 W. Thirteen Mile, Oct. 5:  According to police report, someone used a red marker to write graffiti on the rear wall of the business.    

3100 block of Elmhurst, Oct. 4:  According to police report, someone threw a dinner plate through the rear window of his vehicle.

Ahan Thai, 200 W. Fourth, Oct. 9:  A man reported someone punched and dented a portion of the siding on his building. 

Other incidents

300 block of Waverly, Oct. 7: A man reported he observed several people exit a van and begin urinating on or near his front yard.  The man confronted the people and was punched in the head.  The suspects fled the scene in the van. 

Royal Oak Middle School, 709 N. Washington, Oct. 5:  Two students were found to have smoked marijuana on their way to school.  The students arrived to school late.  School staff noticed an odor of marijuana coming from them and notified the police.  The officers found one of the students to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and the other student in possession of cigarettes.
