Police Blotter: Arrests Made in GPS Theft, Fleeing Officers; Homes, Cars Broken Into

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Highlights of reports for Sept. 30-Oct. 5:

Police arrest fleeing driver

Royal Oak officers attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle Tuesday at Vermont and Girard after officers observed the driver acting suspicious.  The driver fled in his van and police pursued. The pursuit ended several blocks later when the suspect abandoned his vehicle in the middle of the street and fled on foot.  Royal Oak officers chased the suspect through several yards and eventually arrested the suspect.  The suspect was charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and driving under the influence of narcotics. 

2 arrested in GPS theft

Royal Oak officers responded to the report of a larceny from automobile in progress and that someone was in a black Mustang in the 2600 block of East Hudson. The person left the area after stealing an in-dash GPS unit from a vehicle. Officers quickly located and stopped the suspect vehicle. Officers found the stolen GPS unit in the trunk. Two suspects were arrested. Police are investigating to determine if the suspects are connected to other related crimes.

In other larceny from vehicle incidents:

  • 2700 block of Vinsetta, Oct. 5:  A woman reported that she noticed the interior light of her vehicle on and went outside to check it. When she approached the vehicle she noticed that someone had been inside rummaging through it. As the woman leaned inside the car she was struck by a tree branch from behind.  The woman turned and observed two male suspects fleeing the area on foot. The woman was not injured and nothing had been taken from the vehicle. 
  • 1800 block of North Main, Sept. 29:  A woman reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse.   
  • 2200 block of East 12 Mile, Oct. 3:  A man reported that two males in an older black Ford Explorer stole tires from his vehicle while it was parked in a parking lot.

  • 2300 block of Elmhurst, Sept. 30:  A man reported that someone broke into his garage and stole his golf clubs, weed trimmer, leaf blower and edger.    
  • 700 block of Lloyd, Oct. 3:  A man reported that someone entered his garage and stole several tools. 
  • 600 block of North Gainsborough, Oct. 4:  A man reported that someone attempted to enter his detached garage through a window. 

Homes Invaded

  • 500 block of North Kenwood, Sept. 30:  A woman reported that someone broke into her home and stole her television, various types of jewelry and an iPad. 
  • 1500 block of South Campbell, Oct. 3:  A man reported that someone broke out the glass to the front door and attempted to enter his home. 
  • 1700 block of Guthrie, Oct. 5:  A woman reported that someone entered her home through an unlocked bedroom window and stole a safe from her closet. 

Cars Stolen

  • 1100 block of East 14 Mile, Sept. 30:  A man reported that someone stole his white 1999 Honda Civic from his driveway.  
  • 1100 block of South Campbell, Oct. 3:  A woman reported she left her vehicle running in the driveway and entered her home for a short period of time.  A woman came out to observe a man driving away in her black 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. 

Other Incidents

  • 25000 block of Woodward Avenue, Sept. 29:  Royal Oak officers responded to the report of a larceny from the vacant and boarded up business. When the officers arrived they found a man had taken the rain gutters off the building and was loading them into his truck. The suspect was arrested for larceny.  
  • 500 block of Devillen, Sept. 29:  A woman reported that someone broke her bedroom window with pellet from a bb gun.  
  • 100 block of South Vermont , Sept. 30:  A man reported that someone stole a ladder from behind his garage.  
  • , 3601 West 13 Mile, Oct. 3:  A woman reported that the laptop computer and purse she left unattended in the visitor waiting room was stolen. 
  • , 1500 Lexington, Oct. 3:  A man reported that someone keyed his vehicle. 
  • 1000 block of Hilldale, Oct. 3:  A woman reported that someone keyed her vehicle.
