Police Blotter: Break-ins, Thefts, Vandalism Top Week's Reports

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Following are reports made to the from Sept. 23-28:

Resident scares off would-be intruder

  • 1500 block of Crooks, Sept. 26: The complainant reported hearing a loud bang at his front door. He looked outside and observed a short black male, wearing a tan jacket, dark hat and white gardening-type gloves, who was attempting to force the door open with a crowbar. The resident yelled and locked the deadbolt, which scared away the suspect.

Thief raids home, steals Mini Cooper

  • 900 block of West 12 Mile, Sept. 24: The complainant reported that someone stole his 2006 red Mini Cooper, flat-screen television, several swords, a DVD player and other assorted items from his home. He said he believes the suspect may be an acquaintance whom he had allowed to stay at the house for the past few weeks.

Home invasions

  • 500 block of West 12 Mile, Sept. 21: The complainant reported that someone broke into his residence and stole a flat-screen TV, jewelry, computer and clothing.
  • 800 block of North Main, Sept. 27: The resident reported that someone entered his home and stole his LCD television.

Items stolen from garages, home, golf club

  • Royal Oak Golf Club, 3417 Don Soper, Sept. 23: Several power tools were reported stolen from the maintenance shed.
  • 700 block of Symes, Sept. 27: A weed trimmer and leaf blower were reported stolen from an unlocked garage.
  • 800 block of East Fifth, Sept. 27: The complainant reported that a male in a white van entered his unlocked garage and stole a washer and dryer.
  • 2300 block of Barrett, Sept. 27: The hot water heater was reported stolen from a vacant house.

Car stolen

  • 29000 block of Woodward Avenue, Sept. 27:  A woman reported her grey 1998 Honda Civic stolen.

Bikes stolen

  • 1100 block of North Blair, Sept. 26: A black Rocky Mountain brand mountain bike was reported stolen from a resident's driveway. 
  • 3500 block of Rochester, Sept. 27: A silver and blue BMX-style bicycle was reported stolen. 
  • Nikki’s Restaurant, 703 N. Main, Sept. 28: A Nashbar mountain bike was reported stolen.
  • 300 block of Dewey, Sept. 26: The complainant reported his bicycle stolen from his driveway. 

Purses, iPod, GPS units stolen from vehicles

  • Lafayette and Sherman streets, Sept. 24: A woman reported that someone entered her vehicle and stole her purse and textbooks.
  • 600 block of Helene, Sept. 23: A woman reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her portable GPS unit and an iPod. 
  • BP gas station, 2419 E. 11 Mile, Sept. 23: A man reported that when he entered the store to pay for his gasoline, someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his wallet.
  • 800 block of Knowles, Sept. 27: A woman reported that someone smashed the window of her vehicle and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the purse she had left inside.
  • 900 block of Fernwood, Sept. 27: A woman reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole an undisclosed amount of money.
  • 900 block of South West, Sept. 27: A woman reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse.

Vandalism, thefts among other incidents

  • National Coney Island, 1830 N. Main, Sept. 28: The complainant reported that two men kicked his car door and broke off a mirror in retaliation to a dispute over a food bill. 
  • Speedway gas station, 1620 E. 12 Mile, Sept. 21: The complainant reported that four people entered the gas station, two of whom distracted the clerk while another person went into the storeroom and stole four cartons of cigarettes.
  • 200 block of East Harrison, Sept. 25: A man reported that a neighbor set off a firework on top of his vehicle.
  • 500 block of South Edgeworth, Sept. 28: The complainant reported that an unknown person keyed the side of his truck. 
  • Fashion Eyeglass, 32756 Woodward Ave., Sept. 24: The complainant reported that someone spray-painted graffiti on the building overnight.
  • Kroger, 30991 Woodward Ave., Sept. 26: Approximately 20 milk crates were reported stolen from the rear of the store. 

Police arrest 20 people

Royal Oak Police said 20 arrests were made Sept. 23-28:

  • three misdemeanor warrant
  • three driving while license suspended
  • two operating while intoxicated and driving while license suspended
  • two larceny
  • two trespassing and misdemeanor warrant
  • two possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia
  • one retail fraud and resisting arrest
  • one operating while intoxicated
  • one operating while intoxicated and possession of narcotics
  • one leaving the scene of an accident
  • one possession of narcotics and misdemeanor warrant
  • one domestic assault
