Police Blotter: Cars Stolen, Man Finds Unknown Woman Cooking in His Apartment

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

received more than a dozen reports of stolen vehicles and larceny of vehicles from Sept. 6-13. Under the heading of "Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile":

Two residents of Royal Oak reported their vehicles were stolen from their home or driveway in the past week, police reported.

  • 2400 block of Yale, Sept. Sept. 12:  A man reported someone stole his blue 1999 E-150 van from his driveway. 
  • 300 block of S. Edison, Sept. Sept. 12:  A man reported someone stole his brown 2010 Chevrolet Malibu from the front of his home. 
  • 1100 block of N. Campbell, Sept. 8:  A woman reported someone stole her white 2002 Dodge Durango from the parking lot. 
  • 1700 block of Gardenia, Sept. 8:  A woman reported someone stole her 1999 silver Chrysler Concorde from the parking lot. 
  • 3027 W. 13 Mile, Sept. 11:  A man reported someone stole his silver 2003 Chrysler Sebring from the parking lot. 
  • 2400 block of Starr, Sept. 11:  A man reported someone stole his 2009 Yamaha YZFR6S motorcycle. 
  • 1100 block of N. Campbell, Sept. 12:  A woman reported someone stole her purple Dodge Neon from the parking lot.

  • 1700 block of Gardenia, Sept. 8:  A man reported someone smashed the passenger side window on his 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe and stole the in-dash GPS unit and the in-vehicle entertainment package equipped with a plasma television. 
  • 500 block of N. Sherman, Sept. 8:  A woman reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse, clothing, make-up and sunglasses. 
  • LA Fitness, 25352 Woodward Avenue, Sept. 10:  A woman reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle on Sept. 3-12 and stole her iPhone. 
  • 500 block of S. Campbell, Sept. 11:  A woman reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her iPad. 
  • 600 block of N. Rembrandt, Sept. 12:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his iPod. 
  • 300 block of N. Rembrandt, Sept. 12:  A woman reported someone threw a rock through the passenger side window of her vehicle and stole a purse and wallet.  
  • 300 block of N. Rembrandt, Sept. 12:  A man reported someone threw a rock through the driver side window of his vehicle and stole a wallet.

Man finds unknown woman cooking in his apartment

  • 3000 block of W. 13 Mile, Sept. 6:  A man reported he came home to find an unknown female cooking food on his stovetop.  When confronted, the woman fled on foot out the front door. The woman had forced open a window located in the front of the apartment and also stole an undisclosed amount of currency. The woman is described as 30-45 years of age, short reddish or brown hair, and approximately 5-feet 9-inches tall.
  • 3300 block of W. 13 Mile, Sept. 11:  A man reported a family member, who no longer lives at the home, entered and stole currency and prescription medication.     

Larceny

  • 400 block of S. Washington, Sept. 7:  A woman reported someone stole her purse. 
  • 2400 block of Starr, Sept. 10:  A man reported an acquaintance stole his laptop computer while visiting his home. 
  • 4100 block of W. 13 Mile, Sept. 11:  A man reported someone took his Nintendo gaming system from his house. 

Malicious damage to property

  • 12 Mile and Clifton, Sept. 11:  Royal Oak officers located political graffiti spray painted on 12 Mile near Clifton. 

Other incidents

  • Main and Parent, Sept. Sept. 12:  Royal Oak officers located a subject passed out in his vehicle.  Officers attempted to wake the subject and check his welfare.  The subject was not responsive and Royal Oak Fire was summoned to assist.  The subject was found to be highly intoxicated and was transported to William Beaumont Hospital for detoxification.  While removing the subject from the vehicle, officers located a loaded Glock handgun in his back pocket.  The subject did not have a concealed weapons permit and was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. 
  • , 3015 N. Main, Sept. Sept. 12: Royal Oak officers responded to investigate a threats in which the caller stated that two males in a green Chevrolet Trailblazer had threatened to shoot him.  Officers located the suspect vehicle a short distance away and initiated a traffic stop.  The driver was found to be driving with a suspended a license and had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.  The caller left the scene and officers could not further investigate the threats complaint.  The suspect was charged with driving while license suspended and misdemeanor warrant. 
  • Ten Mile and Woodward Avenue, Sept. 8:  Royal Oak officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and noticed that the occupants of the vehicle were in possession of drug paraphernalia and acting very nervous.  The occupants of the vehicle informed the officer they were on their way to a pawnshop to sell a laptop computer.  The officer inquired about the laptop and determined it had recently been stolen in Birmingham from an automobile.  Officers located the owner of the laptop and returned it.  The suspects were arrested for possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. 
  • 900 block of Maxwell, Sept. 10:  Royal Oak officers were dispatched to investigate three male subjects who had been observed exiting the railroad tracks, each carrying a backpack.  The caller reported the subjects emptied the pack packs into the bed of a pickup truck and were leaving the area.  Royal Oak officers located the suspects in the pickup and detained them.  The officers determined the suspects were in possession of several railroad track parts and immediately notified CN police.  CN officers arrived on the scene and are investigating the suspects for larceny and trespassing.  CN dispatched railroad track inspectors to ensure the tracks had not been damaged. 
  • Lincoln and Longfellow, Sept. 10:  Royal Oak officers were flagged down by a passerby who stated that he had observed a white Dodge Ram travel at a high rate of speed south across Lincoln without stopping.  Officers began checking the area for the reckless driver when they were flagged down by another witness who also stated they observed a white Dodge Ram travelling in the neighborhood at a high rate of speed.  Officers located the Dodge Ram parked in a driveway.  A third witness reported seeing the truck at a high rate of speed and pull into the driveway.  The officers located the vehicle occupants and began to question them when the driver of a second vehicle arrived and reported the Dodge Ram had rear-ended him several times after throwing a bottle at his vehicle.  The officers arrested the driver of the Dodge Ram for felonious assault with a motor vehicle, open alcohol in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.
