Police Blotter: Items Stolen from Homes, Cars, Businesses

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Thefts dominated reports to the Royal Oak Police Department for this past week.

Home Invasion 

1300 block of S. Main, Dec. 9:  A man reported observing a male crawl under the partially open garage door at his neighbor’s home.  The man observed the suspect exit the garage a short time later.  The man began following the suspect until Royal Oak officers arrived on scene.  The investigation revealed the suspect entered the garage, opened the door to the home and entered.  The suspect was placed under arrest for home invasion, misdemeanor warrant and probation violation.  This case is still under investigation. 

Breaking and entering

4300 block of Delemere Court, Dec. 10: A man reported someone smashed the window on one of his work trucks and stole several tools.  The suspect then forced entry into two storage sheds in the lot and stole ladders, tools and gasoline.

Car stolen

1300 block of Ferris, Dec. 11:  A man reported someone stole his 1999 green Dodge caravan from his driveway. 

Larceny

LA Fitness, 25352 Woodward Avenue, Dec. 6:  A woman reported someone stole her cell phone and purse from the locker room.

IHOP, 29202 Woodward Avenue, Dec. 9:  A woman reported someone stole her iPhone. 

LA Fitness, 25352 Woodward Avenue, Dec. 9:  A woman reported someone stole currency from her locker. 

Jewelry, GPS units, iPod taken from unlocked cars

2200 block of Dallas, Dec. 9-12 (occurred on 11-17-12):  A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a portable GPS unit and several CD’s. 

4600 block of Delemere, Dec. 7: A woman reported someone stole jewelry from her unlocked vehicle. 

500 block of S. Minerva, Dec. 12:  A woman reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a portable GPS unit. 

300 block of S. Edgeworth, Dec. 11: A man reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a portable GPS unit. 

700 block of Helene, Dec. 11:  A man reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole an iPod and reading glasses. 

100 block of N. Edgeworth, Dec. 11:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole clothing and a necklace. 

Cases of pop stolen 

4300 block of Delemere Court, Dec. 11:  A man reported someone smashed the window of a work van and stole several cases of pop. 

Malicious damage to property 

3000 block of Linwood, Dec. 9: A man reported someone broke the first pane of a double paned window by shooting it with a BB gun. 

1900 block of E. Lincoln, Dec. 9: A man reported someone broke the rear window of her vehicle with an unknown object.  

Incognito, 323 S. Main, Dec. 8:  A man reported observing a suspect punch the window of the store as he walked past.  Royal Oak officers located the suspect and placed him under arrest for malicious damage to property.  During his arrest, an acquaintance of the suspect became disorderly and was arrested.  

Travelodge, 30776 Woodward Avenue, Dec. 13:  Royal Oak officers were dispatched to the motel to check an intoxicated subject breaking things in one of the rooms.  Officers arrived and found the tenant was intoxicated and determined he had smashed several pieces of furniture.  The suspect was placed under arrest for malicious damage to property. 

Other incidents

I-75 and Lincoln, Dec. 10:  Royal Oak officers were notified by Troy Police of a retail fraud suspect southbound on I-75.  Troy also informed our department the suspects were driving a vehicle that was reported stolen from Chesterfield.  Royal Oak officers located the suspect vehicle and stopped it near I-75 and Nine Mile.  Three people occupied the vehicle.  One fled from the vehicle when it pulled over while the other two were detained and turned over to the Troy Police Department. 

Main and Fourth, Dec. 11:  Royal Oak officers responded to a retail fraud at Eye Candy, located at 122 S. Main.  As the officers arrived to the area, they observed the suspect driving away from the area and performed a traffic stop.  Through their investigation, the officers identified several articles of clothing and jewelry they believed to be stolen from other CBD businesses.  The officers canvassed several businesses in the downtown area and were able to determine the suspects had also stolen items from Incognito, Noir Leather and P2.  The two occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest and charged with retail fraud and misdemeanor warrant.
