Police Blotter: Purses Snatched, Home Invasions

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Here are the highlights from Royal Oak police:

Cellphones, purses snatched

  • Fourth and Center, April 14:  A woman reported someone grabbed her iPhone out of her hand and ran away. The woman described the person as a young male.  
  • Main and Lincoln, April 15:  Royal Oak officers responded to investigate two purse snatchings. The officer’s investigation revealed that three young males had taken two iPhones and two purses from two victims and ran away. Officers searched the area and located the three young men. They were arrested for larceny.  This incident is still under investigation. 

Graffiti in the CBD

  • Central Business District, April 16:  Royal Oak officers notified seven businesses about graffiti style spray painting on their buildings.  The business owners stated the damage has been there for several months.  No suspects have been identified.  Malicious damage to property reports were filed.  

Home Invasion

  • 200 block of Linden, April 15:  A resident reported someone broke a bedroom window and entered the home.  The person rifled through several rooms but it is unclear if anything was taken. 
  • 1300 block of S. Main, April 15:  A man reported someone entered his home and stole his iPad, currency, and a prayer book. 
  • 3700 block of Linwood, April 18:  A man reported someone entered his home through an unlocked door wall and stole several computers, tools, prescription drugs, and currency. 
  • 900 block of W. Twelve Mile, April 18:  A resident reported someone forced open a bathroom window and entered the home.  The person tripped the home alarm and fled the home before stealing anything. 

Breaking and Entering

  • Art Center for Creative Study, 4400 block of Fernlee, April 16:  Someone entered the business and stole a laptop.  The person also stole landscaping planters and a sign from outside of the business. 

Stolen Cars

  • 300 block of N. Troy, April 12:  A man reported someone stole his 2001 Chrysler Concord. 
  • 300 block of N. Troy, April 12:  A man reported someone stole his 1998 Dodge Stratus. 
  • 1600 block of E. Fourth, April 13:  A woman reported someone stole her 2005 Dodge Durango.  

Larceny

  • 44th District Court, 400 E. Eleven Mile, April 12:  A man reported someone stole his bag from one of the courtrooms. 
  • 800 block of N. Main, April 16:  A man reported someone stole a newly purchased couch left in the lobby by the delivery company. 
  • William Beaumont Hospital, 3601 W. Thirteen Mile, April 16:  A woman reported keys missing from her key ring after utilizing the valet parking service at the hospital. 
  • William Beaumont Hospital, 3601 W. Thirteen Mile, April 15:  A woman reported someone entered her locked work locker and stole her debit card. 
  • Emagine Theatre, 200 N. Main, April 15:  A woman reported someone stole her purse from the bowling alley area. 
  • 1700 block of E. Lincoln, April 13:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked storage shed and stole his bicycle.  
  • Tequila Blue, 526 S. Main, April 15:  A woman reported someone stole her purse and cell phone. 
  • 3200 block of Garden, April 18:  A man reported someone stole his lawn mower from his yard when he went to clear some brush in the back of the home. 
  • 1000 block of Etowah, April 18:  A woman reported someone stole two lawn mowers being stored in the crawl space of her home. 
  • William Beaumont Hospital, 3601 W. Thirteen Mile, April 18:  Hospital staff reported someone stole a laptop from one of the rooms. 

License plates stolen

  • 700 block of E. Farnum, April 16:  A man reported someone stole the license plate from his vehicle. 
  • 4900 block of Coolidge, April 13:  A woman reported someone stole the license plate from her vehicle.  

GPS units taken from cars

  • 500 block of S. Kenwood, April 16:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked 2005 Jeep Cherokee and stole his in-dash GPS unit. 
  • 1500 block of E. Fourth, April 16:  A man reported someone smashed the window of his 2011 Jeep and stole the in-dash GPS unit. 

Other Incidents

  • 500 block of S. Vermont, April 16:  A resident reported someone kicked the screen door on the front of the home several times causing damage. 
  • 500 block of S. Main, April 14:  A man reported someone damaged the front grill, hood, windshield and bumper of his vehicle.  
  • Webster and Woodward Avenue, April 18:  Royal Oak officers located and interviewed a suspect with misdemeanor warrants.  During the investigation, the suspect was found to be in possession of possible stolen checks.  The suspect was arrested for uttering and publishing and a misdemeanor warrant. 
  • 4200 block of Rochester, April 18:  A man reported someone smashed the rear window of his 1988 Dodge Shadow.
