Police Blotter: Royal Oak Officers Help Arrest Bank Robbery Suspects

Highlights of reports for Oct. 20-27:

Royal Oak Officers Assist Other Police Departments

Fourteen Mile and Campbell, Oct. 20:  Royal Oak officers responded to assist the Madison Heights Police Department with the apprehension of three bank robbery suspects who were hiding in the wooded area behind Mark Twain Park in Royal Oak. All three were arrested and officers found several firearms. 

Greenfield and Judson, Oct. 27:  Royal Oak officers were monitoring a vehicle pursuit involving the Oak Park Police Department. A man had fled from Oak Park police because of a traffic warrant.  The man lost control of his vehicle, crashed and then ran on foot.  The Royal Oak K-9 Unit arrived to assist. Officers from Royal Oak and Oak Park tracked the man a few blocks away hiding in an unlocked detached garage.  The man was turned over to the Oak Park Police Department.

Breaking and entering

2000 block of North Connecticut, Oct. 24:  A man reported that someone stole a window air-conditioning unit from his garage sometime over this past week.

800 block of Knowles, Oct. 21:  A man reported someone entered his garage and took several items.

Home invasion

1900 block of Massoit, Oct. 26:  A man reported that someone entered his home and stole a TV remote, a jar of coins and some collectible coins. 

Wallets stolen at

YMCA, 1016 E. Eleven Mile, Oct. 20:  A man reported that someone broke into his locker and stole his wallet and credit cards.

Cars stolen

1100 block of North Stephenson, Oct. 23:  A woman reported that someone stole her 1992 yellow Buick Century from the parking lot. 

1000 block of Catalpa, Oct. 23:  A woman reported that someone entered her unlocked 2005 Volvo and rummaged through the contents, including her purse that was left in the vehicle. Someone found a car key inside the purse that belonged to her 1998 Volvo, which was parked nearby.  The person then stole the 1998 Volvo. 

GPS units taken from cars

300 block of E. Kenilworth, Oct. 20:  A man reported that someone stole a portable GPS unit, sunglasses and a laptop from his unlocked vehicle. 

1300 block of Hoffman, Oct. 23:  A man reported that someone broke into his Jeep and stole the in-dash GPS unit. 

2900 block of Crooks, Oct. 23:  A woman reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole the portable GPS unit. 

600 block of E. Lincoln, Oct. 23:  A man reported that someone broke into his Jeep Grand Cherokee and stole the in-dash GPS unit. 

600 block of E. Lincoln, Oct. 24:  A man reported that someone broke the rear window of his Jeep Grand Cherokee and stole the in-dash GPS unit. 

600 block of S. Troy, Oct. 25:  A woman reported that someone broke out the rear widow of her Cadillac Escalade and stole the in-dash GPS unit. 

600 block of S. Troy, Oct. 25:  A man reported that someone broke out the rear widow of his Cadillac Escalade and stole the in-dash GPS unit.  A resident in the area reported that he saw a man walking around the area and at one point observed the him standing near the Escalade.  The resident left without calling the police and later learned the neighbor’s car had been broken into.

Items taken from unlocked cars

Sixth Street and Williams Street, Oct. 23:  A woman reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse. 

Eleven Mile and Alexander, Oct. 24:  A man reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a walking cane, his handicap parking pass and health care card. 

4500 block of Tonawanda, 1-24:  A man reported that he saw a male inside his unlocked Chevrolet Astro van, and discovered the in-dash stereo had been partially removed.  The suspicious man ran when he was confronted. Also missing was money from a purse that was left inside the van, according to the police report. 

Other incidents

3800 block of West 13 Mile, Oct. 20:  A woman reported someone took several prescription pills from the her purse. 

Third Street and Williams Street, Oct. 20:  A woman reported that someone keyed her car and broke off her car's antenna.

1200 block of S. Lafayette, Oct. 21:  A man reported that someone stole three sections of his wrought iron fencing. 

900 block of Hoffman, Oct. 21:  A man reported that someone stole a BMX style bicycle from the backyard.

606 Williams, Oct. 25:  A woman reported that during a scheduled inspection of her apartment by management and a contracted company, several pieces of jewelry were taken. 

, 2214 E. 11 Mile, Oct. 24:  A woman reported that she left her purse on the table unattended for a short period of time.  When she returned to the table she found her purse was gone.

Oakland Technical Center, 5055 Coolidge, Oct. 26:  A man reported that someone stole his unattended laptop when he left it in a backpack on a bench.
