Police Blotter: Stolen iPod Recovered; Bikes, Cars Stolen

Following are highlights from Royal Oak Police Department reports for the week of June 21-June 28.

Larceny

  • Art Center for Creative Study, 4425 Fernlee, June 26: Complainant reported someone stole her iPhone at her business. She was able to track it by her GPS app on the phone and it was located at a newly hired employee’s house in Southfield. She immediately notified the police and we were able to recover the iPhone at the suspect’s house. The employee admitted the theft and was arrested for Larceny in a Building.
  • Game Stop, 450 S. Main, June 21: Complainant reported his unlocked red Trek bicycle was stolen while he was inside the store.
  • Royal Oak High School, 1500 Lexington, June 25: Complainant reported an unknown suspect stole his bicycle from the bike rack.  

Other Incidents

  • AT&T, 1800 W. 14 Mile, June 21: Complainant reported two suspects that walked over to a display case for the new Apple iPhones and ripped the phones from the secured cords. The two suspects ran north through the parking lot and fled in an unknown direction.
  • 25600 Woodward, June 22: Complainant reported someone stole two cameras from his office.  
  • LA Fitness, 25352 Woodward, June 25: Royal Oak officers responded to LA Fitness on a report of two men looking into cars. Upon arrival, officers observed two men exiting the parking lot in a pickup. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the truck and found the driver to have a misdemeanor warrant. The passenger of the vehicle gave officers a false name. Officers were able to ascertain the passenger’s real name and discovered he had two misdemeanor warrants and was in possession of marijuana. Both suspects were arrested and taken into custody.

Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile

  • 4000 block of Woodland, June 26: Complainant reported his grey 2001 Dodge Intrepid was stolen from his apartment complex parking lot. 
  • 2800 block of Normandy, June 26: Complainant reported his red 1997 Ford Taurus was stolen.
  • 4000 block of Benjamin, June 27: Complainant reported her red 2000 Chrysler Voyager was stolen from the apartment complex parking lot. 

Malicious Damage to Property

  • 1000 block of Iroquois, June 21: Complainant reported someone slashed the two front tires of her vehicle.
  • Lindell Ice Arena, 1403 Lexington, June 23: Complainant reported someone scratched the rear section of her vehicle.
  • Torquay and Crooks, June 25: Royal Oak officers responded to a report of a juvenile who had thrown a rock at a car and broke the windshield. Officers located the juvenile and he was taken into custody. 

Larceny from Automobile

  • LA Fitness, 25352 Woodward, June 21: Complainant reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his GPS unit, IPod touch and a RC hydroplane with controller. 
  • 1900 block of North Main. June 22: Complainant reported someone stole the catalytic converter from his vehicle.  
  • 400 block of Royal, June 24: Complainant reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole numerous items, including two cameras and an MP3 player.
  • 1100 block of East Fifth, June 25: Complainant reported an unknown suspect broke the rear window to her 2011 Jeep and stole the in-dash GPS unit.
  • 1500 block of East Fourth, June 25: Complainant reported an unknown suspect broke the rear window of his 2011 Jeep and stole his in-dash GPS unit.
