Police Blotter: Stranger Approaches Child, Indecent Exposure and More

Highlights from Royal Oak Police Department reports from the week of March 16-22:

Stranger approaches child playing in yard

  • 1900 block of Bonnie View, March 16:  A woman reported a man in his 70s entered her backyard carrying two puppies. The man began talking to her 4-year-old daughter, who was alone playing. The complainant confronted the man and he abruptly left in a small, dark colored, older station wagon. The suspect was described as being 6 feet tall, heavy build with grey hair and a scruffy face. He was wearing a blue polo shirt, shorts and flip-flops.  

Man charged with indecent exposure

  • , 423 W. 11 Mile Rd., March 22:  Royal Oak officers responded to the report of a man masturbating in the bathroom. The man was taken into custody and charged with indecent exposure.  

Hand gun found on drag racer

  • 14 Mile and Woodward Avenue, March 16:  A Royal Oak officer stopped a vehicle for drag racing.  The driver was found to be in possession of a handgun. He was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.  

Staff member struck at middle school

  • , 709 N. Washington, March 19:  Royal Oak Officers responded to the report of a juvenile who struck a staff member. The juvenile was taken into custody.  

Homes invaded

  • 1500 block of West Farnum,  March 15:  A woman reported someone entered her house through her bedroom window and stole jewelry and other miscellaneous items.  
  • 1300 block of South Main,  March 17:  A man reported someone entered his residence through his open garage door and stole a laptop computer.  

Car stolen

  • 600 block of Williams,  March 21:  A woman reported someone stole her grey 2004 Dodge Intrepid.  

Breaking and entering

  • 1300 block of Woodsboro,  March 17:  A man reported someone entered his garage and stole a bicycle.  
  • 1000 block of E. 11 Mile,  March 17:  A man reported someone entered his garage by breaking the side window and stole two bicycles.  
  • 200 block of S. Main,  March 17:  A man reported someone entered his vacant business and stole a computer printer and other miscellaneous items.  

Items taken from cars

  • 700 block of South Washington,  March 16:  A man reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his laptop computer.  
  • 2900 block of Woodward Avenue,  March 18:  A man reported someone stole the catalytic converter from his vehicle.  
  • 3000 block of Ferris,  March 19:  A woman reported someone entered her vehicle and stole a portable GPS unit and her wallet.  
  • 1700 block of Sunset,  March 20:  A man reported someone stole miscellaneous tools from his truck.  
  • 1000 block of West 11 Mile,  March 20:  A man reported someone stole the wheel covers from his vehicle.  
  • 2000 block of West 14 Mile,  March 22:  A man reported someone stole the catalytic converter from his vehicle.  

Purses and wallets taken

  • 5055 Delemere,  March 20:  A woman reported someone stole her cell phone from her unlocked locker.  
  • , 205 W. Fifth, March 21:  A woman reported someone stole her purse.  
  • , 3601 W. 13 Mile, March 22:  A woman reported someone stole her wallet from the Imaging Center. 

Candy and gum stolen

  • , 1620 W. 12 Mile, March 22:  Three people entered the gas station and stole over $100 dollars in candy and gum. 

Other Incidents

  • 700 block of North Washington, March 16:  A man reported someone broke the door handle of his vehicle.  
  • 300 block of Dewey, March 20:  Complainant reported someone broke the passenger window of his vehicle.  
  • Main Street and Fifth Street, March 21:  Royal Oak officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit entered into the City of Southfield where Southfield Police officers took the driver into custody.
