Police Blotter: Underage Drinking, Teen Attacks 11-Year-Old for Kindle, Bike Thefts and More

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Highlights from reports from the week of April 19-26:

Homeowner arrested for underage drinking party

  • 3000 block of West 13 Mile, April 18: Royal Oak officers responded to a loud party complaint. The officers’ investigation revealed two people present at the party were intoxicated and underage. Both were issued minor in possession of alcohol violations and turned over to their parents. The homeowner was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. During the arrest the homeowner was found to be in possession of brass knuckles and was also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.

Teen attacks 11-year-old for Kindle

  • 14 Mile and Woodlawn, April 18: A man reported his 11-year-old grandson was walking home when a 16-year-old boy wearing a blue shirt approached him. The teenager demanded to see the youth’s Kindle and attempted to grab it from his hands. The youth pulled the Kindle to his chest, at which time the suspect punched the youth in the face twice. The suspect fled the scene on foot. Royal Oak officers arrived on scene and were able to locate the suspect, who was arrested for strong arm robbery.

Roommate pulls a knife

  • 200 block of Royal, April 25: Royal Oak officers responded to an argument between two roommates and arrested one of them for felonious assault after determining he pulled a knife on the other and threatened to kill him.

Bicycles stolen from store, garages

  • American Cycle and Fitness, 29428 Woodward Ave., April 22: Someone broke out the front window of the store with a brick, entered the store and stole a bicycle.
  • 4300 block of Mandalay, April 20: A woman reported someone entered her unlocked garage and stole four bicycles.
  • 400 block of West Hudson, April 20: A man reported someone entered his garage and stole his bicycle.
  • 4000 block of Hillside, April 21: A man reported someone entered his opened garage and stole his bicycle.
  • 3500 block of Hillside, April 23: A man reported someone stole his white Trek 7200 mountain bike from his detached garage.
  • American Cycle and Fitness, 29428 Woodward Ave., April 23: Complainant reported someone stole his locked white Bianchi mountain bike from the bike rack

Spray painting spree

  • North Connecticut and Red Run, April 22: A resident reported someone spray painted the stop sign on the corner.
  • 1900 block of North Connecticut, April 22: A man reported someone spray painted his “for sale” sign.
  • The Woodward Warehouse, 4260 Edgeland, April 23: Someone spray painted the cinder block walls surrounding the Dumpster along with the wall on the east side of the building.

Home invasions

  • 1800 block of Rochester, April 20: A woman reported someone entered her apartment through a broken rear window and stole jewelry.
  • 800 block of N. Blair, April 20: A resident reported returning home and hearing someone walking around upstairs and exited the residence and called the Royal Oak Police. Officers arrived and discovered someone had forced open the door wall, entered the residence and stole jewelry. The person fled the home prior to the officer’s arrival.

Thieves target cars

  • 1900 block of North Washington, April 23: A man reported someone attempted to pry open the door of his 2009 Mercury Milan in an attempt to steal it.
  • 29300 Woodward Ave., April 26: A man reported someone stole his blue 1994 Honda.

Larceny

  • Bright Ideas, 220 N. Main, April 22: Someone stole the “Animal Rescue” donation jar from the store counter.

Items taken from cars

  • 2800 block of Woodslee, April 18: A man reported someone entered his unlocked truck and stole several construction tools.
  • 300 block of East 11 Mile, April 21: A woman reported someone broke her driver’s side door lock, entered the vehicle and stole her laptop.
  • 2600 block of Ardmore, April 21: A woman reported someone entered her vehicle and stole her camera and laptop computer.
  • 3000 block of West 13 Mile, April 24: A man reported someone pried open the door of his 2005 Dodge Neon and stole his in-dash GPS unit.

Attempts to steal GPS units

  • 300 block of East Parent, April 24: A man reported someone smashed the passenger window on his Chrysler 200 and attempted to steal the in-dash GPS unit.
  • Trader Joe’s, 27880 Woodward Ave., April 24: A man reported someone smashed the rear window of his Jeep Cherokee and attempted to steal his in-dash GPS unit.
  • 3000 block of West 13 Mile, April 24: A woman reported someone smashed the rear window of her Jeep Cherokee and attempted to steal the in-dash GPS unit.

Other Incidents

  • 13 Mile and Shenandoah, April 18: Royal Oak officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver was found to be driving under the influence of narcotics and driving while license suspended. During the course of the investigation, the suspect admitted he was on his way to sell Xanax to a co-worker. The suspect was also charged with possession of narcotics with intent to deliver.
  • 5000 block of Crooks, April 20: A man stated someone punctured both tires on the passenger side of his vehicle.
  • 5000 block of Crooks, April 23: A man reported someone super glued his front door lock.
