Police Blotter: Women Smash SUV Windows, Man with Fake Gun Arrested and More

Thefts dominated reports to the for the week of June 7-14.

Women smash out Explorer's windows looking for fight

  • 11 Mile and Campbell, June 13: Royal Oak officers responded to several 911 calls in which witnesses described how three women in a white Dodge Charger ran up to a Ford Explorer and began smashing out the windows while trying to entice the driver to get out and fight. Officers arrived to the area and determined the women had fled south on Interstate 75. The victim was located and stated she had accidentally cut off the Charger while driving. She was then followed on Interstate 75 for about 20 minutes and finally exited the freeway in an attempt to get away from the Charger. While trying get away, the driver of the Explorer struck two other vehicles, she said.

Police arrest man with fake gun

  • Speedway gas station, 1720 Rochester, June 14: Royal Oak officers responded to investigate a report from a customer about a suspicious person inside the gas station. The clerk appeared to be very nervous, the customer said, so the customer informed the clerk he would call police. When officers arrived, they found the suspicious person inside the store and determined he had a cigarette lighter that was fashioned as a two-shot Derringer handgun in his pocket. The clerk believed the man was there to rob him when he noticed the weapon in the man’s pocket. The man was arrested on various warrants.

Homes invaded

  • 1300 block of South Main, June 7: A man reported he came home and placed his backpack containing a laptop on the floor next to his couch. He went upstairs and came downstairs later and noticed his backpack was missing along with a camera that was on a table. It was determined someone had entered the home through an open garage door.
  • 4000 block of Amherst, June 7: A man reported someone entered his residence through a rear window. Nothing appeared to be missing from the residence.

Breaking and entering

  • 5000 block of Coolidge, June 7: A man reported someone cut the lock to his storage rental facility and stole four candy vending machines.
  • 2000 block of North Connecticut, June 10: A man reported someone entered his unlocked garage and stole an assortment of tools.

Items taken at businesses, in classrooms and more

  • Boys & Girls Club, 1545 E. Lincoln, June 9: A man reported someone stole his cell phone.
  • 2100 block of North Wilson, June 9: A man reported someone stole his generator and air compressor from his driveway.
  • Cottage Inn Pizza, 32980 Woodward, June 8: A woman reported someone stole her cell phone from the counter.
  • O’Tooles, 205 W. Fifth, June 11: A woman reported someone stole her earrings, makeup bag and prescription medications from her purse.
  • Royal Oak High School, 1500 Lexington, June 12 (occurred 5-21-12): A man reported someone stole his wallet and car keys from a classroom.
  • Noodles and Company, 460 S. Main, June 11: A woman reported someone stole her wallet.
  • National Shrine of the Little Flower, 2100 W. 12 Mile, June 14: A man reported a boy, 13-14 years of age, entered the gift shop and stole a gold coin.

Items taken from vehicles

  • 1000 block of Irving, June 8: A woman reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse.
  • 900 block of Symes, June 12: A man reported someone stole the license plate off his vehicle.
  • Belle Tire, 31053 Woodward Ave., June 12: A man reported someone stole a leaf blower and extension cord from his vehicle.

Thieves target minivans at Northwood Elementary

  • Northwood Elementary, 926 W. 12 Mile, June 11:
    • A man reported someone punched the driver's side door lock of his Chrysler Town and Country and attempted to gain entry.
    • A woman reported someone entered her Dodge Caravan and stole her purse and phone charger.
    • A man reported someone punched the driver side door lock of his Chrysler Town and Country and stole the in-dash stereo, a watch and an iPod.
    • A woman reported someone punched the driver side door lock of her Chrysler Town and Country and stole the in-dash GPS.
  • Campbell Gardenia Service Station, 919 N. Campbell, June 11: A man reported someone entered his 1999 Ford and stole the stereo.

Suspicious vehicle fire reported

  • 3200 block of Belle Court, 6: Royal Oak officers responded to a suspicious vehicle fire. The incident is under investigation by the Royal Oak Fire Department.

Other Incidents

  • Rocket Printing, 605 S. Washington, June 11: The business reported someone attempted to pry the molding off the front door.
