Lt. Bill Sawyer of the Royal Oak Police presented a check for $14,412 to the Boys & Girls Club of South Oakland County at City Hall Monday.
The check represents proceeds from the Royal Oak Police Charity Golf Outing held in August at the Red Run Golf Club in Royal Oak. The event was co-sponsored by Fifth Avenue.
"The police department is always looking for ways to give back to our community," said Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue.
About 140 golfers from law enforcement and the general community participated in the outing.
O'Donohue thanked Sawyer for working tirelessly to make the event happen.
"He did all the work on his own time," O'Donohue said, adding, "We are committed to making this an annual event so mark your calendars for Aug. 4, 2014."
